Ben Carter


Born to a Native American Father and a Scots-Irish Mother, Ben spent most of his life in some aspect of the art world. He attended college on an art scholarship, and served in the United States Army as an illustrator. His career as an award winning graphic artist, has been with several large advertising agency's, including his own studio for 16 years in Houston, Texas.

Ben's work has been displayed in Galleries in Los Angeles, CA., Carmel CA., Jackson Hole, WY., Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Wimberley, Texas. His work adorns the wall of Corporate offices and private homes across the Country.

Ben was commissioned by the Witte Museum in San Antonio to paint the art for the exhibition "Thundering Hooves:The History of the Horse in North America". This exhibit traveled for five years throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, and Australia.

Ben paints in oils, watercolor, and pastels, and his work contains many paintings of Native Americans, horses, longhorn cattle, cowboys, Texas landscapes. If you think you have him pegged, about that time he will paint a gorgeous waterfowl or a landscape with an old house and barn in the background and a wildflower foreground. He has also done illustration, putting his talent to work in several children's books which has western and Native American themes.

Ben currently resides in San Antonio, Texas and continues to paint, enjoying it more each day. He is constantly studying and learning new techniques or perfecting old ones. The pleasure it brings to him is reflected in his work.
